美國行動處理器大廠高通(Qualcomm)去年發表最新一代的5G旗艦產品Snapdragon 888 (S888)5G行動平台,採用三星5奈米製程,但卻傳出處理器過熱問題,甚至還輸給高通前一代採用台積電7奈米製程的S865處理器。對此,媒體報導指出,高通下一代旗艦級產品可能找上台積電4奈米製程。
受到陸美貿易戰衝擊以及定價優勢,台灣IC設計大廠聯發科去年市占率正式超越高通,但高通的5G處理器仍有強大競爭力,原本去年推出S888打算搶攻高階處理器市場,但隨著S888翻車情況被爆出,聯發科1月20日最新款5G旗艦級系統單晶片 (SoC)天璣1200與天璣1100,採用台積電6奈米製程,在5G、AI、拍照、影片、遊戲等全方面的表現,滿足消費者超快速無線連結體驗。
對此,高通則是搶在聯發科發表新品前推出S870 5G行動平台,但並非使用三星5奈米製程,而是台積電7奈米製程。
據《digitimes》報導,內部人士消息指出,高通將繼續採用三星5奈米製程生產該公司下一代5G旗艦級處理器S895,但很有可能在2022年採用台積電4奈米製程生產。
至於為何高通近期將訂單釋給三星,市場人士指出,這與台積電產能滿載、無法再排出更多生產線給客戶。為此,台積電今年2021年資本支出上調至250億美元至280億美元,調高約45~62%。台積電表示,因應台積電先進製程與特殊製程應用,與客戶需求大增,大幅調整資本支出規模,80%將用於3奈米、5奈米、7奈米等先進製程,10%用於先進封裝技術,10%用於特殊製程。
台積電在去年8月舉行的年度盛會「全球技術論壇」提到,基於5奈米製程技術的4 奈米製程,預計2022 年量產,較先前指出2023年量產提早1年。至於三星,則是澄清沒有放棄4奈米製程,破除媒體傳言。
雙方目前在3奈米製程研發階段,並採用先進封裝技術,台積電董事長劉德音日前指出,3奈米製程有機會在今年下半年開始試產,並延續FinFET技術,預計明年量產。市場消息指出,三星在3奈米製程已經開始採用GAA技術,但傳出研發時程延遲1季。
