在手機市場節節敗退，加上VR（虛擬實境）事業未明顯好轉，宏達電2季營收68億元，稅後淨損為20.9億元，每股虧損2.53元。陸媒憂心指出，若第3季區塊鏈手機再起不來的話，HTC離最後款手機的日子可能已經不遠了。
智慧機市場競爭激烈，宏達電近年不再打機海戰術，今年約維持5、6款新機，精準瞄準目標市場，但因HTC智慧手機銷售仍然低迷，導致7月營收暴跌，單月營收僅14億元，月減37%，年減77%，創2003年8月以來15年新低。
宏達電今年首季出售手機代工部門給Google，業外進帳330億元，好不容易轉虧為盈，每股純益25.7元，大賺2個資本額，終結連11季虧損，不過第2季營收又被打回原形，呈現虧損狀態。
儘管宏達電第3季還有中階手機新品及區塊鏈手機亮相，但因整體市場買氣疲弱，預估新品效應也難以顯現，大陸界面新聞指出，萬一區塊鏈手機HTC Exodus還無法起死回生，或許離最後１款HTC手機的日子已不遠了。
宏達電在8月酷暑慘遇營收寒冬，不少網友也唱衰HTC前景，紛紛回應「這廠牌已經沒有什麼基本盤可守了」、「htc不賣便宜一點搶市占然後養平台，只想賺硬體錢，看來是遇到瓶頸了」、「這家公司真的除了炒股能力，實在沒什麼可取之處」、「原來小紅自己操盤，難怪虧損連連~」。
還有人認為，即使靠VR也救不了HTC，「VR穩死的又不信」、「迷片 VR的最後救命索」、「VR不會起來，至少不會在HTC手上起來」、「VR就算賣200萬台也救不了手機」。
