關於 IMF - 經濟

在九月的某期 NEWSWEEK 看到一篇關於 IMF 的文章, 有幾個疑問想請教大家

1. 裡面有對 Meltzer 教授的訪談摘要, 其中一個:

Q:Asian exchang rates are more rigid today than before the 97-98 crisis.
Why is that a bad thing?

A:Two reasons. The US has an unsustainable current-account[trade] deficit.
This year it will borrow $800 billion, much of it from China. And many
other countries of Asia have pegged to China just as China has pegged
to the US dollar. As a result, Asia's total dollar holdings now are
around $2 trillion. They have probably separated themselves from the need
to take advice from the IMF.

2. 我查了 wiki 關於 IMF 的介紹, 好像左派人士對它非常反感
NEWSWEEK 那篇文章說 IMF 在面對歐美強勢國家的時候, 很沒有力
IMF到底有存在的必要嗎?

因為我從暑假才開始看 NEWSWEEK 跟 經濟學人的一些文章, 經濟學的教科書還沒看過
覺得這些東西實在是比電子學有趣多了
